Salisbury Lane
The project was initially conceived in reaction to the loss of privacy from a neighbouring development. The existing semi had been poorly extended several times over, resulting in a warren-like layout. The design seeks to re-establish a cohesive series of interconnecting spaces which flow smoothly inside and out.
A relatively small single storey rear extension helps to unlock the floorplan, creating a sense of shelter and enclosure to re-establish a connection to the garden and shield a new rear terrace from overlooking.
Working with the existing roof form generates an exciting double height volume flooded with daylight. A green roof seeded with wildflowers reinforces the garden connection on the upper floor of the property, bringing a sense of wild wonder and an intimate link with nature.
The use of continuous soft coloured waterstruck Egernsund brickwork inside and out, extending into the landscaping, creates a sense of cohesion and continuity. All brickwork has been pointed with complementary coloured mortar for a soft textured finish.
